Alia Sharrief is a young African American Muslim hip hop artist. She was born and raised in Sacramento, California and currently resides in Oakland. Alia is not only a rapper but also a women’s right activist. She organizes youth workshops and runs an organization called The Hijabi Chronicles, which is a community that seeks to highlight and support young creative Muslim women and teens.
As a young girl she aspired to be a soul singer but turned to rapping after damaging her vocal chords in a accident. She has paved a name for herself among local conscious hip hop circles. Watch the music video for My Girls Rock below…
